Board Letter November 2022

Board Matters, November 2022

Greetings, friends. It’s my pleasure to bring you this month’s overview from the Board of Trustees of UUCSW. The “official” UU theme for November is Change, but as we all know, November is also a time to reflect on things we are thankful for.

At this month’s Board meeting we had a chance to look forward to some upcoming changes and to acknowledge many of the ways we should all be thankful as a UUCSW community.

In terms of change, we continue to slowly return to normal–a bit of change in and of itself–from the interruptions of COVID. The Garden Committee held a dance party recently to fund garden improvements to the front of the church. Once the steeple windows are replaced as the last step of the improvement project, work will begin on restoring the front lawn and planting beds to give our church some new “pop.” Indian Dance will soon be returning to our Chapel for their classes and we are looking forward to hosting the Westborough Interfaith Thanksgiving Service this year in our own Sanctuary. Changes and improvements continue to be made as part of the Board’s ongoing goal of updating the policies and procedures for our church community.

In terms of our gratitude, there is too much to fully articulate here. It is worth taking time, I think, to highlight a few of those things. Appropriately for November, thank you to our veterans, both within our UUCSW community and in the community at large. Thank you to all of our UUCSW volunteers that help our church flourish, even when thrown the massive curveball of a multi-year-long global pandemic. Specially thanks to Lisa Shumway, our financial guru, for her tireless work on the church accounts and the extra savvy to deal with the hiccups to the income and expenses the pandemic has caused, and to Sharon Barrett, our Program Committee Chair, who has ensured continuity of programming online, in person, and hybrid, to give us the weekly outlet we need for ourselves and our community. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

And to all the rest of you, thank you for being a part of UUCSW. Best wishes for a happy and safe Thanksgiving to all.
